The RPB report: Role Performance Breakdown for TBC raiders

Activity, deaths, avoidable damage, potions in combat and the casts that matter, judged per role over every boss pull.

RPB is short for Role Performance Breakdown. Where the CLA looks at what a raider brought to the pull, the RPB looks at what they did during it, and judges every raider by their role rather than against the whole raid. A healer is not asked about damage, and a tank is not asked about mana potions.

Every number is summed over the night's boss kills. Wipes are left out, the way the original sheet's "only bosses, no wipes" setting did it, so a messy pull does not colour the night.

Roles

Four roles: tank, healer, caster and physical. The role comes from the spec in the log and from what the raider did. A druid who spent a third of the fights in bear form is a tank, a hybrid who healed twice as much as they hit is a healer, and anyone else with a caster spec is a caster. The role picks which checks apply, which potion is expected, and who the raider is compared with on the Casts tab. Every tab can be filtered by role with the buttons above it.

Boss-fight numbers

Open a raider's row on the Raiders tab and four groups appear. A line is only shown when it applies to that raider, so a mage does not get a line for parries.

Activity

  • Active: the share of the time alive spent casting or swinging. The slack number.
  • Deaths over the night.
  • Battle Shout uptime for warriors, as a share of boss-fight time.
  • Hits per AoE cast, for anyone who used area spells.

Output

  • Damage done, healing done and absorbed.
  • Engineering: damage from bombs, grenades and the like.
  • Judgements on bosses for paladins, and racials used.
  • Sunders and Scorches under 5 stacks: how many of the raider's applications found the boss below a full stack, out of all of them. Zero is a stack that was kept up.

Damage taken

  • Total and avoidable: the fire, void zones and other damage a raider can step out of, following the sheet's per-boss rules. Yellow when above zero.
  • From engineering and friendly fire: damage from other raiders' bombs, and from their spells.
  • Reflected damage, and parries for tanks, since a parried swing speeds up the boss.

Interrupts

  • Spells interrupted, with the names of what was stopped.
  • Times interrupted: the raider's own casts cut short. Yellow when above zero.

Potions and other consumables in combat

The In combat sheet under Consumables counts what each raider used during boss fights: haste potions, destruction potions, mana potions, healing potions, ironshield potions, healthstones, runes, sappers, and everything else, from bombs and grenades to bandages and the odd Flame Cap, under Other.

Each role has an expected potion: haste for physical, destruction for casters, mana for healers, ironshield or haste for tanks. That column is red when the raider never used it and yellow when they used it less than once every four pulls. The Potions column on the Raiders tab is the same number, per pull. Open a row for the whole list with the rate per pull.

See the In combat sheet on the sample report.

Casts

The Casts tab is one matrix per role: a column per raider, a row per spell that matters for that role, the way the RPB sheet tracked the abilities each role lives on. Rows are grouped by class, with the spells several classes share under Shared. Uptime rows give the share of boss-fight time a buff or debuff was up. Switch classes off above the table to read one class at a time, and pick the role with the buttons on the right.

What is not in it

There is no DPS ranking against other guilds and no percentile. The numbers are per night, per raider, next to the raiders who had the same job. If you want parses, Warcraft Logs does that well. The RPB is for the raid leader's message the morning after.
