The CLA report: Combat Log Analytics for a TBC raid night

Gear, enchants, gems, flasks, food, drums and trash counts for every raider at every boss pull, computed from the combat log.

CLA is short for Combat Log Analytics, the spreadsheet TBC raid leads filled in by hand from Warcraft Logs after every night: who had a flask, whose gear was not enchanted, who skipped drums. Logbreakdown computes the same sheet from the combat log file, for every boss pull of the night, in the seconds after the upload.

The CLA is about preparation. It answers what each raider brought to the pull, not how they played once it started. That part is the RPB, and both live on the same report page as tabs.

Raiders

The first tab is the night on one screen: one row per raider, every check as a column, sorted so the raiders with the most to fix come first.

ColumnWhat it shows
Wrong gearItems with a serious problem at a boss pull: no enchant, an empty slot, gear that does not belong on that boss. Red.
CheapCheap enchants and empty sockets. Yellow, a nudge rather than a talk.
Flask, Battle, Guardian, Food, WeaponThe share of boss pulls where that buff was up at the pull. Red under 50%, yellow under 80%.
AverageThe consumable columns as one number.
PotionsUses of the potion the role is expected to drink, per boss pull. From the RPB.
DrumsDrums cast over the night.
Active, DeathsFrom the RPB.
SuboptimalBuffs that were the cheap version, by name.

The last row is the raid average. Click a count and the matching tab opens with that raider's row expanded. Open a row here and the boss-fight numbers from the RPB appear under it.

See the Raiders tab on the sample report.

Gear

At every boss pull the game records what each raider is wearing, with enchants and gems. The Gear tab lists everything that fails a check, and which bosses it was worn on. A raider with a clean set is not on the tab at all.

CheckWhat it means
no enchantA slot that should carry an enchant does not.
cheap or bad enchantAn enchant, but one from the list of cheap or wrong ones.
empty socketA gem slot with nothing in it.
uncut gemA gem from the list of ones that do not belong in raid gear.
melee hit gem on casterA hit rating gem meant for melee, in a caster's socket.
no itemAn empty slot.
pvpPvP gear on a boss that does not call for it. A few encounters allow it.
useless gearRiding, slowfall or engineering trinkets and the like, worn into a boss.

The Raiders tab splits these into wrong gear, in red, and cheap, in yellow. A cheap enchant or an empty socket is the nudge. Everything else is the talk.

See the Gear tab on the sample report.

Consumables

The tab has two sheets. At pull is the CLA one: for every boss pull, was the buff up the moment the encounter started? Given as the share of pulls.

Elixir or flaskA flask, or a battle elixir together with a guardian elixir.
Battle, GuardianThe two elixir slots on their own.
FoodA well-fed buff.
WeaponAn oil, sharpening stone or weightstone on the weapon.
ScrollsScrolls of Agility, Strength and the rest. Named when the row is opened.
SuboptimalBuffs that count, but were the cheap version. Named, in red, so the raider knows what to swap.

The second sheet, In combat, counts potions, healthstones, runes and sappers used during the pull. Those come from the RPB.

See the Consumables tab on the sample report.

Drums

Leatherworkers carry Drums of Battle, War and Restoration, and a party only gets the most out of them when the drummers take turns. The tab lists every drummer with the drums cast of each kind, the average number of raid members each cast reached, five being a full party, and a weighted score that adds those up. Tinnitus counts the debuff a drum leaves behind for two minutes, during which no other drum can land. A high count next to a low buffs-per-drum number is drums going to waste.

See the Drums tab on the sample report.

Trash

The old CLA sheets asked for trash kill counts to prove a full clear: so many Spell Shades in Karazhan, so many Ghouls in Hyjal. Logbreakdown counts the kills of every named trash pack against the minimum for Karazhan, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, Hyjal, Black Temple, Zul'Aman and Sunwell. The tab shows a tick when every minimum is met, otherwise how many are not. Gruul's and Magtheridon's lairs have no trash requirement.

See the Trash tab on the sample report.

What the CLA needs from the log

Everything on this page except Drums and Trash comes from the gear and buff snapshot the game writes at each pull, and that snapshot only exists with advanced combat logging on. Turn it on once and it stays on.
